MCC Independence Day Swiss Round 1

Overall: A long (four hours+), hard-fought, enjoyable game. I had some inaccuracies in the opening that resulted in awkward positions, but I managed the middle-game maneuvering reasonably well. A mistake at the first time control left me down a pawn in a rook ending with pawns on both sides. I did a good job increasing my king and rook activity, though, and I think I had good drawing chances. But I didn’t leave myself enough time for calculation at the end.

    I dont know the f4 french, only the french in which one plays c3 to defend d4 which is an important square in the french opening, actually most of the opening moves are played for guarding (white) or attacking (black) the d4 square. So maybe its better for you to study the tarrasch french.

    Btw, i guess 0-0-0 is a bad move in the french opening since then the white king goes to the side of the board the black pieces are active and its never a good idea to put your king where the opponent’s pieces are.

    chesstiger—Here’s what GM Lev Alburt says about 7. f4 with a subsequent “bad move” O-O-O in this recommended line: White gains more space and creates a central stronghold with the triad, d4-e5-f4. White’s plan: to castle queenside after Nf3 and Qd2, and to play on the kingside and in the center. Black’s plan: to castle short and to try to undermine White’s center with … c5 and … f6.

    Tom—I don’t know how blogspot works. Assuming it provides you with place to upload the HTML, .js, and .gif files spit out by ChessBase, you could try inserting something like the following HTML code in your post:

    <div>
    <iframe
    src='http://www.eddins.net/steve/chess/games/2010/eddins_kaprielian.htm'
    scrolling='auto' frameborder='0' style='width:100%; height:600px; background:transparent;'>
    <a href=

    rel="nofollow">Game board</a></iframe>
