This is a cool problem since the tempting Qxd4+ Kh1 Qxc4 only draws. The best I see is Qxd4+ and if Kh1 Qa1+ Bf1 Qxe5. On e5 the queen guards against white’s drawing idea. Is there something better for black?
Loomis—I believe your variation is sufficient. After …Qxe5, Black has to move his rook. White can’t protect it by capturing on h4, because then Black plays Kg7, threatening both …Rh1 and …Qxf6. So after …Qxe5 and …Kg7, White’s threats are ended, and he is down the exchange and two pawns with no compensation.
