Ending 2006 with a tournament victory and a Class B rating

Last night I drew in the final round of the MetroWest Chess Club Holiday Swiss, which was good enough for clear 1st place in the Under 1850 section.

The tournament just got rated this morning, and my new unofficial USCF rating is 1657. That’s an increase of more than 250 points in 2006!

    Well desereved. HUZZAH!

It appears your lessons with Igor have been well worth the investment. I’m jealous ( and happy for you). Maybe after I put my army of kids through college, I can afford such beneficial lessons.

Thanks Blunderprone and Edwin. Blunderprone – I enjoyed my lessons with Igor and recommend him to anyone who asks, but it would be oversimplifying things to attribute my rating gain to my four lessons with Igor last summer. I took lessons with Dan Heisman for two years up through last June, which helped me a lot in terms of knowing what to study. Also, I’ve played more slow games this year than last, and I’ve been doing a lot of tactics practice.
