It seems like quick wins don’t come my way very often. In this one, I saw something new in the Vienna Game. 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.f4 exf4

My club and online opponents play this against me fairly often. It lets White send Black’s knight back home.4.e5 Ng8 5.Nf3 Be7 6.d4 Bh4+

This I hadn’t seen before. I thought a while before deciding that my king would be safer on e2 than with the alternatives.7.Ke2 I think I would play it this way again. 7…Bg5 I think at this point Black needs to let this pawn go and get some pieces out. 8.Nd5 f6

Now I think Black’s king is just as insecure as White’s.9.Bxf4 Bxf4 10.Nxf4 Nh6 11.Kd2 fxe5 This is where Fritz’s evaluation swings in Wihte’s favor. I think it’s because of the additional open line to the king’s neighborhood. 12.Nxe5 0-0 13.Bc4+ Kh8

Lots of tactical motifs in the air, such as forks on g6 and f7. At this point I was tempted to go ahead and play a knight check on g6. I was also interested in the possibility of sacrificing a knight on g6 to open the h file, and then maybe delivering mate on the h file with my queen or rook.14.Rf1 This threatens to win Black’s queen. 14…d6 But Black didn’t realize it. 15.Nfg6+ hxg6 16.Rxf8+

Black resigns 1-0
