Goals for 2006 – blitz games
A few days ago I posted about my 2006 goals for slow games. Today I’m thinking about goals for blitz games.
Most chess writers and instructors caution improving players against playing too many online blitz games. That’s not my problem. Most of my play is in OTB club tournaments. I’m not even that comfortable playing online blitz.
Dan has suggested, though, that it would be helpful for me to mix in some blitz, at a time control of 2 5 or something similar. The purposes are:
In slow OTB play, I tend to get “prematurely anxious” when, for example, I have ten minutes left at move 30 in a 40/90 time control.
My 2006 goal is to play 150 blitz games. This is based on playing one session per week of three games or more, including a review of the opening moves at the end of the session.
I’ll be around on the ICC as MathWorker.
